ParentAI Privacy Policy

This is an English translation for convenience. The Turkish version prevails if the two differ.

In short

You can use ParentAI without an account; by default the app runs on an anonymous device identity. On iOS you can choose to create an account with Sign in with Apple; your data is then kept in your account so it can sync between your devices. The child profile you enter and the conversations you have are used to generate responses that fit your situation.

This policy covers the ParentAI mobile app. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with third parties for advertising, and we process only what the app needs to work.

Data we process

The following data is processed while you use the app:

  • An anonymous user/device identifier. Unless you create an account, no email or social account is requested.
  • An optional account (currently iOS only, with Sign in with Apple): the email address Apple passes on — or, if you chose “Hide My Email” with Apple, the relay address Apple creates — and an identifier for your Apple account are stored in Firebase Authentication; your name is not requested. When you create an account, your child profiles (including name and birth month and year, if you gave them), the answers you gave about yourself (your goals, how you were feeling, your preferred tone), your conversations (messages included), your saved stories and games, your Small Steps plans and what the coach remembers sync to it and are kept in Firebase in an area only your account can access. Unless you create an account, this data stays on your device only.
  • Child profile: age, interests, challenge areas and preferred tone.
  • The child’s first name and birth month and year — both optional. If you give a name, generated answers address your child by it; if you give a birth month and year, the age group keeps itself up to date over time (the day of birth is not asked for or stored). You may leave both blank, and you can change or clear them at any time from the child profile screen in the app.
  • Your chat messages and the content generated in the app.
  • What the coach remembers (the child’s file): short notes drawn from conversations about your child (details in the “What the coach remembers” section below).
  • Your Small Steps plans: the plan’s title and its 1–3 steps (including any you edit), which child and which conversation it relates to, the check-in time and your reminder preference, your check-in answers (whether you tried it, how it went, your child’s reaction, all chosen from set options) and, if you choose to write one, a note of up to 280 characters. A random device label the app creates itself is stored with the plan, so the reminder is set on the phone where you made it. By default this data stays on your device only. If you have created an account, your plans sync to it with the rest of your data and are kept in Firebase in an area only your account can access; our security rules do not let any other user, or a session without an account (anonymous), access it. In the Android app, plans are currently kept on the device only.
  • Story topics you type with “Your own topic” on Discover. We store these on our server together with your user identity in the app and review them in aggregate to learn which topics the app is missing. Topics many parents ask for may be added for everyone as new, general topics with no personal details; the text you wrote is never shown to anyone. Topic text is not sent to analytics services, is deleted automatically after one year, and is deleted at once if you delete your account.
  • Usage analytics and crash reports (for diagnostics, not linked to your identity). A child’s name and birth month and year are never included in analytics; only whether those fields were filled in is measured. Small Steps plan titles, steps and notes are never included in analytics either; we measure only options and counts, such as the number of steps, the check-in delay you picked, the type of answer (better / about the same / harder / not tried) and whether a note was written (never what it says).
  • Subscription status (payment details never reach us; they are handled by the store).
  • Service records kept on our server under your anonymous identifier, even without an account: daily usage counters (together with an irreversible hash of a device identifier, deleted automatically after two days), subscription and invite status, and a cache of the day's tip. If you report a reply, share a story or game, or send feedback, that content is stored as well. Your conversations, child profiles and saved content are not stored on the server unless you create an account.

What the coach remembers (the child’s file)

To give you answers that fit better in conversations about your child, the coach draws short notes from what you talk about and keeps them in your child’s “file”. This feature is on by default and can be turned off. The notes exist so that a conversation does not make you start over each time, not to assess your child.

  • What is kept: A limited number of short notes per child; each note is at most 140 characters, written in the third person and describes a single fact (e.g. “A sibling was born in September.”, “Goes to nursery.”). The types are: lasting context, a recent event, an approach that worked, an approach that did not work and the last topic discussed. Each note is stored with the language it is written in, its dates, which child and which conversation it relates to (the note stays if you delete the conversation), whether you edited it yourself and, on a “last topic” note, a short question that may be asked when a chat opens. Notes are drawn from your conversations; when you pick a ready-made topic, a “last topic” note is written without involving the AI; and you can add notes yourself.
  • What is never kept: The coach is instructed not to write the following into a note, and a narrow automatic filter on our server tries to catch what slips through: health information (diagnoses, illnesses, symptoms, medication, supplements, therapy, developmental diagnoses), mental health information, abuse, neglect and violence, legal proceedings (such as custody or divorce cases), information about sexual life, religion, ethnic origin, political opinion and immigration status, your own health, job and finances, names of teachers, friends and relatives, the name of a school or nursery, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. Your child’s name is never written into a note either. Character labels about your child or about you (“stubborn”, “a bad mother”) are not written; only behaviour and context are described. No note is made from a conversation that shows signs of an emergency. These safeguards are not perfect: if a note you do not want is saved, you can delete it. For notes you add yourself these rules do not stop you; we recommend not writing sensitive information.
  • Where it is kept: Notes are kept on your device. If you have created a permanent account (currently Sign in with Apple on iOS), notes sync to it with the rest of your data and are kept in Firebase in an area only your account can access. If you have not created an account, notes are not stored on our servers. Notes may be included in your device backup (iCloud or Android backup); a backup is stored under Apple’s or Google’s rules. The Android app has no account or sync yet; notes stay on the device only.
  • What goes to the AI: To draw notes, when you leave a conversation or the app moves to the background, the part of that conversation not yet reviewed (at most 20 messages), the same child’s existing notes, and the child’s age group and age in months are sent to OpenAI through our secure server. The same conversation text is also processed to check for signs of an emergency. This request does not include your profile text, your child’s name or birth month and year (apart from anything you wrote in the chat yourself). In addition, in a conversation about a child, up to 12 of that child’s notes (text, type and how long ago it was written) are sent so the coach can use them in its answer; another child’s notes are never sent. This data is not stored on our server and is not written to logs; we ask OpenAI not to keep the answers on its side.
  • Analytics: Note text and greeting questions are never included in analytics; only options and counts, such as a note’s type, can be measured.
  • Viewing, correcting and deleting: In the app, under Profile › My children › your child › What the coach remembers, you can see all notes, edit them and delete them one by one; you can report a note you find inappropriate (the note text you report is kept for review, like any other report). This screen stays available even when the feature is off. A note you edited or wrote yourself is never changed automatically. When you delete a child, that child’s notes are deleted too; when you sign out, notes are removed from this device (they stay in your account). If you have an account, deleting a note leaves only an empty marker on the server that tells your other devices it was deleted. When you delete your account, notes are removed from our servers entirely, and exporting your data includes them.
  • Retention: Notes age out and are deleted on their own: lasting context and notes about approaches that worked or did not work 365 days after they were last updated, event notes after 120 days and last-topic notes after 30 days. Notes you write yourself stay until you delete them. The number of notes per child is limited; when a type is full, the oldest automatic note of that type is deleted. Expired notes are cleared when you open the app.
  • A deleted note can come back: We do not keep the text of a deleted note as a “never save again” list. If you tell the coach the same thing again in a new conversation, the same note may be written again.
  • Turning it off: You can turn memory off at any time with the switch on the What the coach remembers screen. While it is off, no notes are drawn from your conversations and no notes are sent to the AI; your existing notes are not deleted, and you can keep viewing and deleting them. We can also stop the feature on the server side; you can still see and delete your notes then.

Why we process it

We use the data only to provide the app’s features, to find and fix errors, to measure performance and to answer your support requests. We also look at the story topics parents type to decide what content to add to the app. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not target ads.

In Small Steps we use the data to turn a coach reply into a short plan you can try, to remind you at the time you chose, and to let the coach give you a fitting follow-up when you tell it how things went. To prepare a plan, only the relevant pair of messages (your last message and the coach’s reply) and the child profile the chat already uses are sent to the AI; the whole conversation is not sent. When you ask for a follow-up, we send the plan’s title and steps, your check-in answers, the number of days since the plan started and, as with any chat message, that conversation’s history. Your note is sent only if “share with the coach” is on. This text goes to OpenAI through our own secure server; it is not stored on our server and is not written to logs. If you report a coach reply, the text you report is kept for review, like any other report.

Service providers

A small number of providers make the app work. Each one only accesses the data its own job requires:

  • OpenAI — the relevant text is sent through our own secure server to generate answers, stories and games, and to group the story topics parents type.
  • Analytics and crash reporting services — for app stability.
  • Apple App Store / Google Play — subscriptions and payments.

Where data is stored and international transfers

Server-side processing runs on Google Cloud / Firebase infrastructure in United States regions. Text sent for generation is processed by OpenAI, also in the United States. Your data is therefore transferred abroad to the extent necessary to provide the service; transfers use encrypted connections and are limited to the purposes listed in this policy.

The app uses Firebase services for authentication (anonymous by default; Sign in with Apple if you create an account), device attestation (App Check) that blocks forged requests, usage quota and, if you have an account, syncing your data. Unless you create an account, these services hold no identifying details such as an email address or name; if you do, Firebase Authentication stores the email address Apple passes on (which may be a relay address).

Retention and deletion

We keep data only for as long as the purpose requires. Removing the app from your device deletes the data stored on the device. If you have an account, the data synced to it is not deleted when you remove the app; it comes back when you sign in again. In the app you can download it as a file with Profile › Account and sync › Export my data, and delete your account and the records tied to it on our server with Delete account; this also removes that data from the device. For any other server-side record, you can ask us to delete it by writing to support@ambersf.com; we complete such requests within 30 days at the latest. See our data deletion page for step-by-step instructions. Story topics you type on Discover are also deleted automatically after one year.

Small Steps plans stay in your history until you delete them. Plans you don’t answer close by themselves 14 days after the check-in time and still show in your history; “Close plan” does not delete anything either. “Delete” on the plan screen permanently removes the plan and its check-in from your device and your account; on the server only an empty marker remains, which tells your other devices it was deleted. Deleting a child deletes all of that child’s plans. Deleting your account removes your plans from our servers entirely. Exporting your data includes your plans.

Security

Data is carried over encrypted connections (TLS). Server-side access is limited to the studio owner. No system is perfectly secure, so we reduce the risk by collecting as little data as possible.

Children’s privacy

ParentAI is designed for parents; the user is an adult. The details you enter about a child (first name, birth month and year, age, interests) are used only to personalise content. The name and birth month and year are optional; the app works fully without them. A child’s name is added to the prompt when an AI answer is generated and, if you have created an account, synced to it with the child profile — never used for analytics, advertising or profiling — and we ask for no identifying information about your child beyond it. We do not market to children.

Small Steps check-in reminders are local notifications set on your device; they are not sent from our servers. Your child’s name never appears in these notifications, which may show on the lock screen. For sensitive topics the plan title is not shown either, and you can hide the title for all plans in the Reminders settings.

Your rights

Under GDPR and Turkey’s KVKK you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict processing and to object to it. If you have an account, you can export or delete your data yourself in the app under Profile › Account and sync. Send requests to support@ambersf.com. You can withdraw device permissions (location, notifications, camera, microphone) from your operating system settings at any time.

Changes

When this policy changes we update this page and the date above. For significant changes we also notify you inside the app.
